New Ti–35Nb–7Zr–5Ta Alloy Manufacturing by Electron Beam Melting for Medical Application Followed by High Current Pulsed Electron Beam Treatment

High-current pulsed electron-beam (PEB) treatment was applied as a surface finishing procedure for Ti–35Nb–7Zr–5Ta (TNZT) alloy produced by electron beam melting (EBM). According to the XRD results TNZT samples before and after PEB have shown mainly single body-centered cubic (bcc) ?-phase microstructures. The crystallite size, dislocation density, microstrain remain unchanged treatment. investigation of texture coefficient at different grazing angle revealed evolution orientations re-melted zone formed top bulk top-view SEM micrographs treated exhibited bcc grains with an average size ~85 ?m. TEM analysis as-manufactured presence equiaxed ?-grains fine dispersion nanocrystalline ? NbTi4 phases together ?-Ti twins. Meanwhile, ? phase regions free precipitation are observed in microstructure irradiation. Nanoindentation tests that mechanical properties melted were slightly improved. However, elastic modulus microhardness heat-affected deeper sample not changed Moreover, region manufactured EBM displayed no significant change corrosion resistance Hence, it can be concluded irradiation is viable approach improve topography EBM-manufactured alloy, while most important parameters unchanged.
